Since 1996 freelance musicologist, concentrating on the edition of 19th century neglected orchestra music, and author of texts on unknown composers.

In 2003, Bert Hagels edited the score of Hans Rott's Symphony No. 1 in E major, published by Ries & Erler, Berlin/Germany.
